One functional cookie, no tracking. Britpage sets a single first-party cookie,
bp_ask, and only when you use “Ask about this illustration”. It holds a signed counter of
how many questions you have asked in the current 24-hour window, part of a fair-use limit — a daily
allowance per visitor plus a site-wide daily budget shared by everyone, which resets each day. It
contains no personal data, is not readable by scripts (HttpOnly), is sent only over HTTPS, and deletes
itself after 24 hours. There are no analytics, advertising, or third-party cookies.
Where your data goes. Page metadata and images load directly from
Hugging Face and the Internet Archive, which see your IP address the way any website you visit does.
When you ask a question, your question and the scan you are viewing are sent to DeepSeek to generate
the answer; Britpage stores neither. Rate-limiting briefly holds a counter tied to your IP address in
server memory for up to 24 hours.
Because the cookie is strictly necessary for the ask feature and does nothing else, no consent
banner is required — using the feature is what sets it.
